Abstract

Cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) is a critical event that requires immediate intervention through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to ensure patient survival. This study aims to evaluate the impact of early and high-quality CPR on adult and elderly individuals through an integrative literature review. The research was conducted in the BDENF and LILACS databases using descriptors in both Portuguese and English. Articles published between 2019 and 2024 that addressed the role of nursing teams in CPR for adults and elderly were included. After screening, 24 studies were selected and analyzed. The results show that early and correctly performed CPR significantly increases survival rates and improves patients' neurological recovery. Additionally, the importance of continuous training for nursing teams and laypeople was highlighted, contributing to improved clinical outcomes. The analysis also revealed that frail patients have a higher risk of mortality after CPR, emphasizing the need for a careful clinical approach. It is concluded that regular training and the implementation of strict protocols are essential to ensure the effectiveness of CPR in emergencies, especially in hospital and pre-hospital settings. The study reinforces the need for continuous investment in education and training programs to increase success rates in cardiopulmonary arrest cases.
