Abstract

Obstetric violence, characterized by disrespectful and abusive practices during childbirth and prenatal care, represents a global issue that undermines the quality of obstetric care. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review to assess the impact of academic training for physical therapy students on pregnant women’s perceptions of obstetric violence. The research was conducted using databases such as PubMed, BVS, SciELO, and Cochrane Library, utilizing specific descriptors related to the topic. Fourteen studies published between 2011 and 2024 with a qualitative approach were included, analyzing academic training and the humanization of obstetric care. The results indicate that the lack of training on reproductive rights and humanization increased the likelihood of perpetuating inadequate obstetric practices. The review also identified a significant gap in physical therapy curricula, with few courses directly addressing obstetric violence. It concludes that academic training is crucial for improving obstetric care and reducing obstetric violence, highlighting the need for curricular reform to incorporate topics such as humanization and reproductive rights.
